Fullstack Software Engineer – Remote
Position Overview
Pragmatike is looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer to join a remote-first team responsible for building the infrastructure that powers high-volume, real-time business operations across multiple systems and platforms. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and scaling integration-heavy backend services using TypeScript and NestJS, while also contributing to frontend features and full product lifecycle work where appropriate. You will be part of a cross-functional engineering team that balances reliability, observability, and performance with rapid iteration and continuous delivery.
The ideal candidate is comfortable with backend architecture and distributed systems, has hands-on experience building event-driven and API-first services, and can also contribute to TypeScript-based frontend codebases when required. You will work closely with product, engineering, and operations partners to translate product requirements into resilient technical solutions, improve existing systems, and drive best practices around testing, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Architecture & Development
- Design and implement scalable, testable backend services using TypeScript and NestJS that handle real-time traffic and large volumes of events or transactions.
- Build and maintain APIs (REST and GraphQL) and integration layers that connect to internal services and third-party systems via webhooks, SDKs, and messaging systems.
- Develop data models and persistence layers (SQL, NoSQL, caching) optimized for performance and data integrity.
Integration & Event-Driven Systems
- Implement robust message-driven patterns using queues, streams, or pub/sub systems to ensure reliable delivery, idempotency, and backpressure handling.
- Design retry, dead-letter, and compensation strategies for third-party integrations and asynchronous workflows.
- Collaborate on API contracts, versioning strategies, and security requirements for external integrations.
Fullstack Contributions & Frontend Collaboration
- Partner with frontend engineers and designers to ship user-facing features; implement backend endpoints and, when needed, TypeScript-based frontend components or pages.
- Ensure end-to-end performance and UX by profiling APIs, optimizing payload sizes, and improving client/server interactions.
Operational Excellence & Quality
- Own the operational health of services: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and post-incident analysis to reduce time-to-resolution and recurrence.
- Write and maintain high-quality automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) and documentation to support maintainability and onboarding.
- Drive CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and containerization best practices to speed delivery while maintaining reliability.
Mentorship & Collaboration
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architecture discussions; share knowledge and mentor junior engineers on the team.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs and implementation timelines clearly to product and stakeholder partners.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience working with TypeScript in backend applications.
- Demonstrable expertise with NestJS or a comparable TypeScript backend framework, including dependency injection, middleware, modules, and testing patterns.
- Strong understanding of API design (REST and/or GraphQL), authentication/authorization patterns, and integration strategies.
- Experience with building event-driven and/or message-based systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, AWS SNS/SQS) and handling idempotency, retries, and ordering concerns.
- Practical experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and caching layers (Redis or similar).
- Familiarity with containers (Docker) and deployment workflows; experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: testing, observability (metrics/logs/tracing), performance optimization, and secure coding practices.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work effectively across remote teams and async workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with frontend TypeScript frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar) and the ability to implement or review frontend code when needed.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Previous work on high-throughput, low-latency systems or in domains requiring strong integration reliability (payments, logistics, communications, or similar).
- Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, ELK stack) and setting SLOs/SLIs.
- Comfort mentoring peers and contributing to engineering processes and architectural roadmaps.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Additional Information
This is a full-time remote position. Compensation details will be discussed during the hiring process. As part of the interview you can expect technical screens that may include system design, coding exercises in TypeScript, and discussions around architecture and operational practices. Pragmatike values strong engineering craft, clear communication, and pragmatic solutions that balance long-term maintainability with time-to-market.
Pragmatike is committed to building an inclusive culture and is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply. Reasonable accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in the interview process.
